Location: Nelson House, Manitoba

Summary:

The JP EA position reports to the JP Case Manager and will work directly under the supervision of the classroom teacher. JP EA is responsible for providing services to Jordan’s Principle students and is expected to plan with the classroom teacher and work with the students in a classroom setting. Must be aware of participants’ health and safety in home or in the community and providing assistance as needed.

Demonstrated Skills & Abilities:

  • Accompany students to support areas such as Physical Educations, Cree and Success Maker Labs
  • Report to the classroom at the beginning of the school day and leave as per scheduled
  • Provide one-on-one support to students
  • Assist the classroom teacher at all levels of students learning
  • Assist in creating a good learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Enabling personal choice and treating Participants with dignity and respect, provide a caring approach to Participants needs (emotional, physical)
  • Follow the instructions given by the office, teachers, family, and Participants unless there is a safety
  • Provide personal care that may require like feeding and
  • Is able to work in Participants home, in the community, school and with variety of families within a variety of time frames
  • Is able to work with children, youth, and adults with physical and intellectual challenges (both in challenging and non-challenging situations)
  • Is flexible to work in all areas in the community, school and home
  • Arrive at scheduled shifts and be on time
  • Arrive 15 minutes before shift when meeting a new family for interview
  • Have relevant medical consent and family information file with you at all times while providing respite and follow instructions in the family information office
  • Clean up after your respite so you leave the property of the respite recipient the same condition that you found it
  • JP EA’s will work one-on-one with the JP students as the teacher will occasionally be working with the students

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Commitment to and knowledge of culturally competent/sensitive delivery issues
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must have a high level of personal integrity and professional initiative
  • Ability to speak an Aboriginal language would be an asset
  • A valid Manitoba Driver’s license would be an asset
  • A criminal records check and Child Abuse Registry check are requirements of all FCWC employment positions

Annual Salary: $38,319
